It's Your Call--identify, explore and celebrate vocation There is a great need for candidates for ordained and diaconal ministry in our church now and in the future. On any given date, over fifty vacant congregations in the ELCIC are seeking pastoral leadership.

Where do these leaders come from? They come from congregations like ours and from families like yours. There is much joy and satisfaction to serve as a minister in the church.

Your congregation is invited to take part in the church-wide It's Your Call program. You are asked to identify persons from your congregation that you perceive have the gifts, and perhaps the call, to serve as an ordained or diaconal minister.

In 2004, the Eastern Synod had its first Its Your Call Sunday, followed by the four western synods in 2005. We were delighted to receive over 200 nominations from across Canada. Synod recruitment committees are continuing to follow up with those identified as they work to discern God's call for their lives.

As the program continues new resources are added to those already prepared. We encourage congregations to make creative use of as many of the resources as seem practical.

  • Worship helps include hymn suggestions, prayers and sermon notes.

  • Confirmation lesson plan provides a detailed outline for a unit on vocation as well as games and activities to engage students.

  • Resources for a worship service of vocation include a service outline, a drama and hymn suggestions.

  • Background information and the Millenium Study of Leadership Needs—Summary of Findings and Interim Recommendations provide more information on the current need to identify potential candidates for both ordained and diaconal ministry.
