Faith Journeys: Rob Melnyk

I read a good book recently which suggests that Christians can live up to Christ's perfect example with hard work and the power of the Holy Spirit. I don't know if it's possible in all aspects of my life, but I have devoted myself to attaining perfection in one aspect, my marriage.

The first step to being the perfect husband is listening to your wife. This has worked well. I am closer to God today thanks to my wife. When I first had questions about God, she bought me my first Bible. When I was confused, she took me to church. It's taken a long time and a lot of work, but my wife is just starting to see the impact God has on my life now.

Jesus teaches us to become servants. This world would tell you that servanthood is a bad thing, but when my wife looks out for me first and I look out for her first, both our needs are met. Jesus said, "and therefore, what God has joined together let no man separate." To me this means that I have the responsibility to make sure nothing harms my marriage, especially my own actions.
