- Recruit and orient stewardship team.
- Appoint individuals or small groups to carry out specific tasks.
- Review the congregation's annual mission & ministry as stated in the budget & assign support/publicity to an individual/small group.
- Ensure that annual giving statements for previous year are distributed along with a special thank you for supporting the mission and ministry of the congregation.
- Prepare articles for the church newsletter dealing with the congregation's stewardship of time, talents and the financial health of the church or general "Stewardship Sparklers."
- Engage in biblical/theological study.
- Recruit and orient chairperson and other leaders.
- Begin making decisions about the method to use for the campaign.
- Become acquainted with all the annual mission appeals in the church.
- Develop a mission's plan for the year
- Develop stewardship education goals and plans for implementation.
- Review new annual stewardship education resources and theme materials. (Visit the ELCIC stewardship website.)
- Convene meeting of persons with interests in Worship, Christian Education, Evangelism and Mission to introduce new resources and discuss how stewardship can be integrated into their programs.
- Ensure quarterly giving statements are distributed. A thank you and a goal challenge might be included.
- Continue newsletter articles of time, talents and financial obligations & general "Stewardship Sparkers". Stewardship reminders at different locations in the church might be considered.
- Continue biblical/theological study.
- Continue to implement plans for the annual financial stewardship campaign.
- Present your missions plan to church council for approval and then present the missions plan to the congregation.
- Invite mission's representatives to speak or put up displays when their mission is being highlighted within the congregation.
- Review video and print stewardship resources for children and youth.
- Consider using stewardship as the theme for the intergenerational VBS this summer.
- Review adult stewardship education resources and plan a short-term study on a stewardship topic.
- Ensure that the second quarter financial giving statements are provided to individuals along with a thank you, encouragement and a challenge.
- Introduce an understanding of stewardship to the new members class. (God's Grace: our time, talents & financial resources)
- Encourage the Pastors, Worship Committee or Church Council to have a "Stewardship Theme" Sunday Worship one Sunday each month. (The material from the Canadian Interchurch Stewardship Committee titled, "Here's Something You Can Do" would be a good resource.)
- Continue biblical/theological study.
- Advise or, if necessary, get approval for the annual financial campaign from the church council.
- Recruit and orient additional members of the campaign team.
- Order or develop campaign materials.
- Submit a general Mission's article for the newsletter.
- Plan ways to help persons of all ages identify, affirm, and use their God-given gifts of time, talents, experience and skills.
- Decide how to involve children and youth in the annual financial stewardship campaign. (in cooperation with the campaign team.)
- Provide a mid year financial report to the congregation with a thank you, encouragement and a challenge.
- As it is vacation time, continue biblical/theological study on an individual basis.
- Continue to implement plans for the annual financial stewardship campaign.
- Highlight one of the missions for the newsletter
- Sponsor an intergenerational stewardship event.
- Prepare information to help adult talk to children about money and stewardship to distribute during the annual financial stewardship campaign. (in cooperation with campaign team.)
- Ensure quarterly giving statements are distributed along with a thank you and encouragement to continue their support of the congregation's mission and ministry.
- Establish a small group to develop and administer a congregational "Spiritual Gifts" inventory.
- Submit a newsletter article on the biblical/theological understandings of stewardship.
- Start planning for a "Planned Giving" workshop in the spring.
- Implement the annual financial stewardship campaign.
- Highlight special mission's appeals not on your annual list and have a special mission's appeal Sunday.
- Involve children, youth and adults in study of biblical stewardship. (consider age appropriate or intergenerational events.)
- Make year-end stewardship team report to church council.
- If terms are up, remind church council to appoint the next year's chairperson.
- Report final results of the annual financial stewardship campaign to the congregation.
- Evaluate the year's program.
- Complete campaign follow-up.
- Promote ways of simplifying one's life-style during the holidays.
- Begin planning a Lenten activity focused on personal stewardship, both one's physical and spiritual life.
