Who was Rasmus?

This project is named after Rasmus Jensen, the first Lutheran pastor in North America.

Pastor Jensen was the chaplain of an expedition sent in the spring of 1619 by King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway to search for the Northwest Passage to India. The expedition landed on the shore of Hudson Bay at the present day site of Churchill Manitoba in the fall of 1619.

His commemoration date is February 20.

Human Resources Application - Comments Summary

This is a summary of the discussion of the human resources application by the bishops, the representatives of the synod offices, and the representatives of congregations who met in Winnipeg June 16-18. Comments in italics have been added by Tony Kwok, the IBM representative who has been working closely with the ELCIC to develop the requirements for the applications.

  1. Personnel Data
  2. Mobility - Ordained/Diaconal Mobility Data for Bishops
  3. Mobility - Ordained/Diaconal Background Data for Call Committee
  4. Mobility - Congregation Mobility Data
  5. Mobility - Congregation Background Data
  6. Personnel Biography Data
  7. Work History Data

Personnel Data

  • The term employee should be replaced with personnel
  • Pastors should be renamed to Ordained Minister where ever it appears
  • On Leave From Call should include other options such as TEMPORARY, MEDICAL/STRESS and SABBATICAL
  • Fields should be added to capture marriage license number, marriage license province and marriage license status
  • It would be nice to be able to view ministers by add/edit/delete of marriage licenses

Mobility - Ordained/Diaconal Mobility Data for Bishops

  • The form originally called a Mobility Request should be renamed to imply that it contains data about a minister's mobility situation and this form should only be visible to the minister's Bishop and any other bishops from a synod where the minister is willing to work
  • COMMENT - ELCA just redid their forms, so we should try to get a copy
  • The bishops should have the ability to sign and lock a Minister's mobility form
  • After a minister submits a mobility form, his/her bishop should be able to review and approve the document. Clicking on a button should sign the document and lock it from further edits by the minister. If the minister wishes to make more changes, the bishop must unlock it first and then re-sign/lock the document after the minister finishes making his/her edits.
  • Receiving bishops should not seriously consider any minister's mobility form unless it has been signed and locked by the sending bishop.
  • It would be nice to be able to view minister mobility forms categorized by professional status

Mobility - Ordained/Diaconal Background Data for Call Committee

  • The form originally called a Pastoral CV form should be renamed to imply that it contains a minister's general background, work history, skills, priorities and experiences.
  • Ministers would be able to select from a predefined list of priorities and skills
  • Once a bishop selects a minister to be presented as a candidate to fill a Call, the bishop may selectively grant access to any appropriate call committee members that have Notes access. If the congregation does not have Notes, then the document is printed and sent by traditional methods.
COMMENT - After the bishop modifies the list of people who may see the current document, a calendar is presented where the bishop may select a date in the future when the system will send an email notification to remind the bishop to check in on the status of this document and to adjust access to the document if necessary
  • Birth dates are not currently in the Minister's background form. It would be nice to have it there, but we need to determine if we are allowed to ask for that information and/or present it on this form.

Mobility - Congregation Mobility Data

  • A new form is required for capturing the congregation's desired priorities and skills in a new minister. These traits would match the list of traits that the ministers can choose from when describing themselves.
  • It would be nice if the system could compare congregation requirements with all the ministers' skills and provide a ranked list of matches

Mobility - Congregation Background Data

  • There was a requirement expressed to have the ability for congregations to maintain a profile document that describes the congregation
  • This document could be used by potential Call candidates to quickly evaluate the congregation prior to any official contact being arranged.

Personnel Biography Data

  • A form for capturing general biography information needs to be added. Personnel would maintain their own form

Work History Data

  • The form that was originally called Work Event should be renamed to Work History
  • The field prompt should change from Job Title to Position Title
