Who was Rasmus?

This project is named after Rasmus Jensen, the first Lutheran pastor in North America.

Pastor Jensen was the chaplain of an expedition sent in the spring of 1619 by King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway to search for the Northwest Passage to India. The expedition landed on the shore of Hudson Bay at the present day site of Churchill Manitoba in the fall of 1619.

His commemoration date is February 20.

Human Resources Application

The purpose of the Human Resources Application is to maintain key information about ELCIC personnel (700 Ordained and 300 lay). All ELCIC personnel who have a pension number (to be referred to as an ID number) will be tracked by this database. The pension number is assigned to all staff regardless of whether or not they are in the pension plan.

The first major category of information is basic employee information, which would be common to all personnel. If the person is an Ordained Minister; or is a Diaconal Minister; or is a lay person in a lay minister role; or is a lay worker, then there is additional information captured that pertains to those roles. The application will also keep track of all currently active Calls, Interim Ministry assignments and lay worker assignments as well as maintaining a running work history.

The Bishops would use this application as a tool for sourcing potential candidates to fill Call and Interim Ministry requirements.

National/Synod staff would use this tool for:

  • Identifying appointments on committees based on their work history.
  • Identifying candidates for professional development workshops.
  • Research and historical uses
Group Services tracks the changes in employer/employee relationships.

Pastors and Diaconal Ministers can complete a confidential mobility form that only the bishops and the originating Pastor/Minister can see. Pastors/ministers would also complete a Curriculum Vitae form that the Bishops, originating Pastor/minister and potential Call committees may see.

We appreciate your comments and suggestions about Rasmus at this e-mail.
