A NEWS RELEASE
From the Evangelical Lutheran Women
Winnipeg, February 18, 2004 (ELCIC) -- It was with excitement, and sadness that Ruth Vince, Executive Director of Evangelical Lutheran Women Inc, announced the intended retirement of Gayle Moore-Morrans (Johannesson) as Program Director of the ELW and Editor of Esprit Magazine, effective July 2004.
Gayle began working at ELW in 1992, initially as the secretary. In November of 1994 Gayle began her term as Program Director and in 1997 dropped the part-time secretary's position to add the responsibilities of being the Esprit Editor. Gayle has a passion for working with words and bringing a writer's work to publication. Over the years, Gayle has encouraged, challenged and mentored many individuals to develop their writing abilities in order to produce resources and programs for ELW that have then provided much education and spiritual renewal for many.
Under Gayle's keen eye for good writing, the Esprit Magazine has won five awards at the annual Canadian Church Press Convention, including an honourable mention A.C. Forrest Memorial Award for excellence in religious journalism. Gayle has included others in the planning of yearly themes for programs and the Esprit by facilitating Consulting Committees each year. She has involved Anglican women in the consultations as well as in previewing of the resources.
Lindy Wozniak, ELW President wrote to Gayle, "Your work for ELW has been outstanding as you shared your many gifts. You have helped to bring this organization to the wonderful ministry it is today. I thank God for having given me the opportunity to work with you. Your compassion, caring and sharing have helped me in so many ways. You will be missed. ELW has benefited from having had your dedicated efficient work ethics."
The positions of Esprit Editor and Program Director are now under review. Announcements will be made within the next couple of months regarding employment possibilities.
