A NEWS RELEASE
From the Office of the Bishop
Winnipeg, February 24, 2003, (ELCIC) -- The Rev. Kenn Ward, Editor of Canada Lutheran, the magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, has resigned effective May 19. He has accepted the call to be senior pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church in Camrose, Alberta.
He has served as Editor since October 1991, with his current term of election scheduled to end on September 30. In his letter of resignation, he wrote, "I have enjoyed my service as Editor and appreciated the support that members of this church have given me."
“The departure of Kenn Ward sets off another round of transition in the National Office,” said National Bishop Raymond Schultz. “Kenn has touched every aspect of life here and is part of a network of deep friendships. He knows people everywhere and is connected to every event that has taken place in this church during his tenure. That is the job of a journalist and reporter, but he has done it with the enthusiasm and affection of one who has felt truly called by God to his vocation. Now he is called elsewhere and I am confident he will bless and be blessed in this new ministry of his.”
During his time in office, Pastor Ward played an active role in Canadian Church Press, serving a term as its President. He was also a corresponding editor for PMC: Practice of Ministry in Canada and has been a patron of Laubach Literacy of Canada for several years.
He is the author of “This Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ours,” (Wood Lake Books, 1994) and “An ELCIC Primer,” soon to be released by the ELCIC in a second edition as “A Guide to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.” The guide is currently being translated and adapted for use by Lutherans in Korea.
