A NEWS RELEASE
From the Office of the Bishop
Winnipeg, August 31, 2002, (ELCIC) -- The National Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) Raymond Schultz suffered a heart attack on Monday, August 26, 2002.
Bishop Schultz remains in hospital and continues to make progress. An angiogram on Friday revealed that a secondary artery is entirely blocked, and a primary artery is partially blocked. A nuclear stress test is expected to be done on Tuesday. In this process, radioactive dye is injected to see how the blood flows.
In accordance with the provisions made in the ELCIC’s constitution for such situations, the Vice-President of the ELCIC, Rev. Susan Johnson, will ensure that the duties of the Office of the Bishop are fulfilled until Bishop Schultz is able to return to work.
“Please hold Bishop Schultz, his family and the National Office in your prayers,” asks Rev. Johnson.
Visitors are graciously declined at this time, according to Rhonda Lorch, ELCIC Director of Administration. Well wishes can be sent to the ELCIC National Office and will be forwarded to Bishop Schultz. Updates on Bishop Schultz's condition will be provided through ELCIC Information and on the ELCIC's web site at www.elcic.ca as new information becomes available.
