A NEWS RELEASE
From the Office of the Bishop
Winnipeg, August 29, 2002, (ELCIC) -- The National Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC), Raymond Schultz, suffered a heart attack on Monday, August 26, 2002.
He has been resting comfortably in hospital. His wife Laila reports that, “He’s feeling better, getting restless and bored. His angiogram was rescheduled to Friday so we'll have to wait until then for a prognosis on his treatment and recovery.”
In accordance with the provisions made in the ELCIC’s constitution for such situations, the Vice-President of the ELCIC, Rev. Susan Johnson, will ensure that the duties of the Office of the Bishop are fulfilled until Bishop Schultz is able to return to work.
“Please hold Bishop Schultz, his family and the National Office in your prayers,” asks Rev. Johnson.
Visitors are graciously declined at this time, according to Rhonda Lorch, ELCIC Director of Administration. Well wishes can be sent to the ELCIC National Office and will be forwarded to Bishop Schultz. Updates on Bishop Schultz's condition will be provided through ELCIC Information and on the ELCIC's web site at www.elcic.ca as new information becomes available.
