Winnipeg, August 28, 2002, (ELCIC) -- The National Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) has suffered a heart attack. Bishop Raymond Schultz was admitted to hospital in Winnipeg on Tuesday, complaining of chest pains. Test revealed that he had had a heart attack on Monday. Further information on his condition will not be available until the results of an angiogram are known. That procedure will be done on Thursday. He is resting comfortably in hospital.
In accordance with the provisions made in the ELCIC’s constitution for such situations, the Vice-President of the ELCIC, Rev. Susan Johnson, will ensure that the duties of the Office of the Bishop are fulfilled until Bishop Schultz is able to return to work.
“Please hold Bishop Schultz, his family and the National Office in your prayers,” asks Rev. Johnson.
Visitors are graciously declined at this time, according to Rhonda Lorch, ELCIC Director of Administration. Well wishes can be sent to the ELCIC National Office and will be forwarded to Bishop Schultz. Updates on Bishop Schultz's condition will be provided through ELCIC Information and on the ELCIC's web site at www.elcic.ca as new information becomes available."
