A NEWS RELEASE
From the Office of the Bishop
Winnipeg, February 21, 2002, (ELCIC) – The Joint Anglican Lutheran Commission (JALC) met in Halifax on February 15-17 to begin to flesh out the commitments of “Called to Full Communion: The Waterloo Declaration” of the Anglican Church of Canada (ACC) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC).
The commission was established by the councils of the two churches to implement and monitor the commitments of the Waterloo Declaration, help facilitate joint meetings of the churches, and seek to develop common expressions of church life. It is chaired by the Rt. Rev. Fred Hiltz, Bishop of the Diocese of Nova Scotia of the ACC and Rev. Michael Pryse, Bishop of the Eastern Synod of the ELCIC.
Progress was made on recommending guidelines for common worship and arrangements for clergy serving by term appointment in the other church. The bishops and councils of each church will be asked to review these proposals at their spring meetings.
The JALC has called for submissions for a logo to be used when the two churches participate in events for “full communion” and for communication of the JALC. The new logo should communicate “Canadian Anglicans and Lutherans in Full Communion” and may be a blend of the logos of each church, or something entirely new.
The requirements of the design are that it be usable in both black-and-white and two-colour and for both print and Web use. The designer of the chosen logo will be required to give up copyright. The final selection will be made by the JALC at its fall 2002 meeting.
Submissions are required by June 30 and may be sent by mail, fax or email to either:
