All across the country, our people listen and meditate on Scripture readings during Sunday worship.
These readings are not chosen by the individual congregation.
The ELCIC uses the Revised Common Lectionary to set which parts of the Bible are read at worship during the church year.
This common lectionary unites us in worship not only with other Lutherans but with our full communion partners, the Anglican Church of Canada and with many other churches around the world.
|
The readings repeat on a three year cycle—The Year of Matthew (Year A), The Year of Mark (Year A) and The Year of Luke (Year C).
Each set of readings usually includes a lesson from the Old Testament, a psalm, a lessonfrom the New Testament and the Gospel lesson. Prayers, sermons and hymns used in the worship service develop the themes and images found in the lectionary readings.
To help those planning worship, we offer the lists of readings assigned to each Sunday for the next two years.
