Delegates will already have spent a few hours in session before supper and being bussed downtown for the Opening Eucharist. With worship as an assembly of the ELCIC, however, we pick up the theme: In Mission for Others. In the planning of the Opening Eucharist, the design team found the phrase "for others" to be a guiding light.
Gifts presented at the offering will represent different regions of the ELCIC. Presiding over the Opening Eucharist is National Bishop Raymond Schultz. He will also preach the sermon. The readings are topical for this biennium's theme: Acts 1: 6-8, 12, 14 and Matthew 25: 31-46. Joining our National Bishop will be Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, and from our partner church in Argentina and Uruguay Pastor-President Alan Eldrid will also participate.
To celebrate our unity in mission, National Bishop Schultz will wear a specially commissioned set of green vestments bearing the logo for the biennium in fabric art. These vestments will be used throughout the next two years and, with new logos, for many more years to come—symbols that unite us in our offering of praise and thanksgiving through worship.
In compliance with the resolution at Camrose 2003, one communion station, using communion ware with a green coloured motif, will serve gluten-free bread and grape juice.
Be ready to be In Mission for Others.
