Augsburg Brampton, ON
I have just completed a full six-year term on Augsburg's Congregational Council. For the last five years I have served as Council President. A highlight for me was the three-year process leading to Augsburg's designation as an RIC Congregation (one of the first in Canada)
For a number of years I have led the drama programme at Augsburg. In 1998 Pastor Tom Doherty and I wrote our own Passion Drama. 2005 marks the 8th year of its presentation under my direction.
I work in our family business: Edward H. Pope Ltd. in Brampton, Ontario. I started in 1975, and have served as the company's president for many years.
Since 1998, I have served on the Board of our industry's trade association: North American Industrial Representatives Association. I have served as Director-At-Large, Senior Vice-President/Fiscal & Legal, and currently serve as Senior Vice-President/Education.
In my five years as Council President at Augsburg I have had a great deal of experience in strategic planning, governance, communications, fund raising and financial management. I have been told that my leadership, organization, listening and communication skills have helped Council function effectively.
I am very interested in the social justice issues with which our church is involved today. I am also concerned about the declining membership in many congregations.
I would like to see the ELCIC make progress on social justice issues while maintaining church unity. I hope for a future where the ELCIC is fiscally strong and growing in all regions.
