In Mission for Others

Mark Koenker

Congregation:

Trinity Thalberg, MB

Past Experience:

July/00 - Oct/02 served as Mission Communication Coordinator in ELCIC National Office

1986-1999 Elected Member of Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly for Saskatoon-Sutherland Constituency

Gifts:

Working familiarity with National Church Office and programs, particularly as they relate to synodical structures. Extensive experience in public governance, consultation and policy formation - particularly identifying problems/solutions and recommendations for policy alternatives and expenditure/resource management.

Issues of Concern:

Currently serving a 3 point rural parish, I have a particular interest in enabling, equipping, and inspiring lay ministry that can meet the challenges of declining fiscal resources, congregational membership, and ordained clergy.

Hopes for the Church:

Maintenance of the status quo is no longer an option for our church whether institutionally or individually. If we are not engaged in spiritual formation to equip us for Gospel mission in word and deed we will wither away as the Body of Christ. I see God the Holy Spirit moving us into new partnerships close to our indivdual congregations so we can 'claim and test our heritage and keep on rising from the dead' (LBW 433)
