Norman L. Thompson

Member of Hills of Peace Lutheran Church, Kamloops BC

Past Experiences or Positions:

Over several decades I have held many positions on congregational councils, including chair, vice-chair and treasurer. I have been the delegate to many national and synod conventions, including the constituting convention in Winnipeg 1985.; I am on the BC - Synod stewardship committee. I was installed as a deacon at Hills of Peace Lutheran Church in February 1999. In addition to assisting with the service at my home church, I also lead the services at several PLURA churches (Logan Lake Community Church and Sun Peaks Chapel) on a rotational basis with the other churches involved. I am a designated accountant, CGA, with a Masters in Business Administration. I also have my ACIS (Chartered Secretary) and P.Admin (Professional Administrator) designations. I have worked in big business most of my career and can bring this experience to assist the National Church with its business and financial affairs. I was appointed in August 2002 to National Church Council as the lay representative for British Columbia. I have been on many community, business and professional boards at the local level as well as at the provincial and national levels.

Concerns and Hopes for the Future of the ELCIC

The church has been undergoing change and needs our help and assistance in meeting these challenges. God has given me gifts and talents that I would like to contribute to the stability and growth of the ELCIC. My education and experience will assist in forwarding the mission of the church. These gifts will also add to the business and financial sector of our National Office.
