Member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Nelson BC
Ordained in 1973, I am a parish pastor and have been a hospital chaplain and director of pastoral care for half my ordained ministry. Serve on Western Canada Synod LCA Board of Mission and Social Concerns (1977-1983); Lutheran Campus Ministry Board, University of Victoria (1981–1991); Faith and Society Committee, BC Synod, (1996–2001); various boards and committees related to health, hospice, pastoral care and ethics; consultant with the Anglican Church Commission on Healing, Victoria BC.
Baptized by my Lutheran pastor grandfather, I have a sense of the Lutheran church as my extended family. In ministry, experimental and ecumenical work has always engaged me: in youth work, parish ministry, addictions rehabilitation and healthcare. In academics, literature and systematic theology always urge me to discover meaning and creative activity in faithful living. In practice, I have enjoyed clinical work in pastoral education, participating in multi-disciplined service, and developing systems and programs for applied ministry.
How we do mission in the world as justice-seekers, and as sojourners walking with the disillusioned.
That we continue to take seriously the contribution that the Lutheran church makes in theological integrity to Christianity in the world. That we contribute to a growing sense of real ecumenicity and understanding among churches, and urge accountability in leadership within and outside the church.
