Dear Delegates and Visitors:
On behalf of the Local Arrangements Committee, I am pleased to welcome you to the Ninth Biennial Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. This event is scheduled for June 12-15, 2003 and will be hosted in Camrose on the campus of Augustana University College.
Many of you will be familiar with Camrose which has long been renowned for its Lutheran roots and its active Lutheran presence. Camrose is home to two Lutheran educational institutions - Augustana University College and Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute. Two ELCIC congregations are located here—Messiah Lutheran Church and Bethel Lutheran Church. There are also numerous congregations in the rural area surrounding our small city.
Camrose is a quiet city of some 15,500 residents. It is considered by many as an ideal retirement centre and, as such, has a higher than average senior population. The city serves as a service centre for a rural area of some 100,000 people in the prairie heartland of central Alberta. Camrose is a short one-hour drive from the provincial capital city, Edmonton. The drive to Banff National Park takes about four hours. Be sure to bring good walking shoes as Camrose has an extensive set of valley walking trails right in the centre of town.
We are very pleased to be able to host this very important event in the life of our church. We look forward to meeting you in June!
Local Arrangements Committee Chairman
