Will we be facing a serious shortage of pastors in the near future?
In March of this year National Bishop Raymond Schultz announced the initiation of a study process to examine the future leadership needs of this church.
For some time, the ELCIC has been concerned about the aging of our clergy pool and the prospect of critical shortages of pastoral leadership in the future.
A Millennium grant from Lutheran Life has been designated to support this study.
Dr. Kenneth C. Kuhn, an ELCIC pastor and sociologist, was appointed by Bishop Schultz to conduct this study. Pastor Kuhn commenced work on this project April 1.
This will be a two-year study process, beginning with research on Canadian and ELCIC demographics and in the second year in developing a process with ELCIC synods, seminaries, CTELs and other partners to address the situation of future leadership.
At the convention Dr. Kuhn is conducting a number of Focus Groups for lay delegates, who were chosen randomly to participate in these grassroots discussions.
More information is available from Dr. Kuhn at the convention, or through the ELCIC national office at (204) 984-9191 or e-mail.
