Second Mile Stewardship -- Think about it!
How would you react if, the month after you received your vacation pay, you noticed that exactly the same amount was missing from your regular pay? You expected that vacation pay to be like a bonus! Your contract is a pledge that you will be paid a certain percentage above and beyond your salary. You've looked forward to it. You have a special project in mind that you couldn't afford on only the regular pay. And now, you have your special gift but you'll have to tighten your belt in the next weeks while your boss lowers those cheques to balance the bonus! The above situation is absurd! And yet some of us use just that formula when we share our money with charities. Do you donate to GHDA regularly and dependably? When a special appeal tugs at your heartstrings, do you redirect some of that money leaving a project short of donations or do you dig deeper and go the second mile? Let's assume that in March you hear of a flood in India and, wanting to respond to that special need, you send $30 directly there, but lower your usual monthly mission gift of $100 to only $70. While it is true that you have helped a certain population, other projects have had to run on a shortage. How can we be reliable stewards? Consider GHDA every time that you make a donation to your church. Make your donations on a regular schedule and don't drop below the amount that you have pledged. If a special need comes to your attention and you feel compelled to help there, find some extra money to donate. That's called Second Mile Stewardship. |
