How would your life be affected if your paycheck arrived when and if the boss remembered?
It would be ridiculous to try to live our lives without knowing when our wages would be paid. Bills have due dates. The family gets hungry every day. Plans to renovate or buy something new are made according to a growing bank account. If your paycheck arrived every week—except when the boss forgot or went on vacation or needed the money for something else—your ability to run your home in a safe, efficient manner would suffer.
The above situation is absurd! And yet some of us use just that formula when we share our money with charities. Do you donate to mission work regularly and dependably?
Let's assume that you decide to donate $100 a month to Global Hunger and Development Appeal (GHDA) this year. Hunger and poverty exist year round. A mother in Cameroon needs medicine for her baby today. A literacy program in Regina needs to buy materials tomorrow. An AIDS hospice in El Salvador needs to pay its workers this weekend. If you give that donation regularly, along with thousands of other donors to GHDA, money flows smoothly to those who need it. If you forget to send your $100 in July and August, or decide to spend it on Christmas gifts in December, there is less money to send. You make a difference either way.
How can we be reliable stewards? Consider GHDA every time that you make a donation to your church. Make your donations on a regular schedule and don't drop below the amount that you have pledged. People around the world can face each day a little more assured of health and security.
Think about it!
